Released 22nd August 2005 Out via Union Square music
Combing British beat excitement, bluesy grit and arty experimentation, The Yardbirds were among the most important and influential UK groups of the 1960s. Though they weren’t blessed with amazing compositional gifts or star-quality charisma like their contemporaries of The Beatles, R’n’B, pop and as the psychedelic ‘60s progressed – an intrepid interest in sheer sound. Their place in the pantheon is firmly established by the parade of star lead guitarist that passed Jimmy Page (1966-68) brought great distinction to the music of The Yardbirds before each lead guitarist went on to take their place among the most celebrated axemen of their generation.
Tracing their development from fizzing R ‘n’ B upstarts to early psychedelic rockers, the 20 tracks here no disrespect to Jimmy Page, who appears on only one of them represent the most successful and exciting period of their career. 1963-66. Get ready for a real rave up!
Our Review:
This stunning completion of Greatest Hits proves The Yardbirds were clearly ahead of their time. Any fan of R’n’ B music from the 60s would be mad not to have this CD in their collection. Highlights from the album are: ‘Baby What’s Wrong’, ‘ I Wish You Would,’ ‘Too Much Monkey Business,’ ‘My Girl Sloopy,’ ‘Good Morning Little School Girl’, ‘Got To Hurry,’. ‘For Your’ Love,’.
If there was a greatest hits album to be proud of then the Yardbirds own it. The rawness of the album speaks volumes I dig it, and I’m sure you will.
