MAXIMUM MERSEYBEAT!
Experience the 'benzedrine' beat up close and personal, in all it's savage glory with the boys from Beat City, Liverpool's premier beat merchants and Cavern Club resident beatsters, The Shakers.
Covering the Merseybeat era with a passion and energy not seen since the 60s beat boom, the boys have built up a solid reputation both nationally and internationally for the best in beat. As Tony says, "The earthy, raw sound of that early sixties period is what made the music so exciting to listen to and, more importantly, feel. The way the guitars clanked and the bass boomed as the drums thinly clattered underneath a hoarse vocal, as it teetered at the top of its range, bellowing out Scouse-tinged, rough–hewn R&B and rock ‘n’ roll like their lives depended on it, which they probably did! THIS is the sound I love and the sound that The Shakers, bring back to the best of cellars – The Cavern Club". Recreating that authentic look and sound of the early 60s, they have made barnstorming appearances at events in Bahrain, Belgium, Spain, Germany, Jersey and also Beatles festivals in Belgium - Mons, Switzerland - Bellinzona & Bavois, Italy - Brescia & Rome (at Teatro Adriano, where the Beatles also debuted in the city in 1965) and UK events such as Butlin's, Whitby & Brean Sands 60s Weekenders plus of course, Liverpool's own Beatle Week and Beatles Day festivals. 2013 saw them cross the Atlantic to make a dynamic debut in the USA at Abbey Road On The River Beatles festival in Kentucky.
Their set ranges from the raw Hamburg period to the Cavern Club's heyday in the early-mid 60s and features the hits, misses, b-sides and lost classics featured in many of the Liverpool beat groups' repertoire at the time. The Beatles are obviously featured heavily and the boys cover the entire 'Please, Please Me' LP plus all their early hits and The Fab Four's rare and well known cover versions too.
They have a UK theatre show tour under their belts and have also backed many 60s names such as Tommy Roe, Chris Montez, Beryl Marsden, Ray Ennis, Karl Terry, Kingsize Taylor and many more. December 2010 saw them backing Hamburg legend Tony Sheridan @ Liverpool's Echo Arena at the Lennon Remembered show, a testament to their authentic Liverpool beat credentials. Mach Schau!
The beginning of 2011 saw the release of their debut EP, CAVERN STOMPIN', a rockin' slice of Cavern beat which sold incredibly well and is now sold out! The follow up EP, MACH SCHAU! is now also sold out. Early 2012 saw them return to the famous Britannia Row studios in London to complete the recording of their first long player,'A Whole Lotta Shakers!' now available worldwide on Germany's Soundflat Records on 12" vinyl.
Their twice weekly Cavern Club residency, Swingin' Saturdays & Shakin' Sundays are now firmly established favourites in the beat calendar and continue to prove that they are simply the best exponents of real, authentic Liverpool beat on the scene today.
