Biography: Richard John Thompson is a singer/songwriter from Newcastle-upon-Tyne who performs both acoustically and with his full backing band. His second album "Illogical Life" will be released in July 2006.
In 2003 he released his debut album "Hidden Daylight" to critical acclaim in the North-East of England. It's success on a regional level led to the album being re-released nationally in 2004, and the band have toured extensively for the past two years in support of the album.
"A Seminal Album, a Masterpiece, the Soundtrack of a Generation." - Metro Radio (North-East).
"Richard has created one of the year's most promising debut sets, with a band that can support him all the way. 9/10" - HMV.
As well as appearances at festivals and gigs alongside Paul Weller, Midge Ure, The Pogues, Duke Special, The Subways, Blondie, The Levellers (and more...), tracks from the debut album have received airplay on over 50 radio stations nationwide including BBC Radio 2, Metro Radio, and Century FM. Richard has taken part in interviews and live sessions on the majority of these stations.
Four tracks from the new album "Illogical Life" are available for listening on www.myspace.com/richardjohnthompson. The album marks a dramatic change in direction for Richard, with the new songs taking a more theatrical, extravagant and unpredictable path to the laid back acoustic blues rock of his debut.
Richard's band is made up of some of the best young North-East musicians. Athol Cassidy lends his subtle touch on lead guitar; Tom Pattison brings years of playing bass in musicals and jazz bands to the table; and Dean Pearson (of The Flowers Of Evil) adds his spontaneous touch with his unpredictable drumming.
