Last year, on the 28th May at (The Astoria in London). Ian Hunter and his Rant band made a DVD and as promised in issue 9 here’s our review.
Just Another Night was released by SECRET RECORDS on the 25th May, 2005, and hundreds of ardent Hunter fans my self included couldn’t wait to get their hands on a copy. I made my purchase at my local HMV, but you can also purchase the DVD on line at www.play.com as well as www.dvdpopcorn.com .
The UK Rant Band are Ian Hunter (Guitar, Piano, Harp, Vocals) Andy York (Guitar Vocals) (Drums Vocals) Gus Goad (Bass), Ian Gibbons (keyboard, vocals) featuring speacil guest Mick Ralphs (Guitar, Vocals).
Secret Records have done an excellent job with the whole package! The DVD is value for money as well as the gig it features an exclusive with Ian Hunter, band sound check, dual sound track, animated biography, interactive menus, set list.
Ian Hunter is a true showman, a rock legend, who over the years has penned some of the greatest songs in rock music. Throughout the DVD we are treated to a mixture of rockers and ballads that are given the ultimate Hunter treatment as the band perform mind blowing classics such as Rest In Peace, I Wish I Was Your Mother, Irene Wilde, Rock ‘n’ Roll Queen, Once Bitten Twice Shy, 23 A Swan Hill, The Truth The Whole Truth, Nuthin But The Truth, and Just Another Night some up the power and excellence behind this skillful band. Throughout his performance Hunter has a way of making you listen to the words, as well as listening to the bands overall performance, he sings the songs with such feeling, and keeps his audience captivated for two and a half hours of rock ‘n’ roll bliss! A special mention goes to the bands outstanding performance of The Journey, a song that’s always moved me.
The DVD includes some very special guest. Joe Elliott from Def Leppard joins the band on stage for an excellent performance of the timeless Mott The Hoople classic, All The Young Dudes, featuring backing vocals by Ian’s son and daughter Jesse Patterson and Tracie Hunter. Towards the end of the DVD, Ian ends the show with “that’s your lot” and we fans know he’s only teasing! The band end the night with a breath-taking performance of All The Way from Memphis and are joined on stage by another music legend Brian May from Queen. May shares a stunning guitar solo along side the legendary Mick Ralphs and the outstanding talent of New York’s very own answer to the late great Mick Ronson, Andy York. Accompanied by the driving force of the mighty Steve Holley on drums, and the rhythmic sound of Gus Goad's bass, along with the melodic sounds of Ian Gibbons on keyboards you cannot fail to be impressed a perfect end to a brilliant night’s performance! Rock ‘n’ roll at its best. A MUST have in your collection.
